We arrived in Athens and my friend was on the hunt for fish. We went for dinner and had the bream and red mullet, which was amazing. We had a funny conversation with the waiter to find out if the red mullet was “fishy or meaty”!. We went back today for lunch where we tried the shrimp and “little shoes”; another amazing meal. Met Aris himself. Absolutely lovely restaurant.

This restaurant felt like heaven in a crowded place. The waiters were nice and helpful. I recommend this restaurant particularly for the food. The meat of my kebab was tender, juicy and tasteful. If you ever have the occasion to come here, go for it.

Tucked away in a side passage of the central market, it’s not just a tourist stop – it’s where locals come to enjoy their lunch, sip ouzo, and share stories over generous plates of traditional Greek food.
The atmosphere is incredibly authentic: Greeks gather around tables, laughing and talking, while the kitchen serves up classic home-style dishes made with ultra-fresh fish and meat straight from the nearby market. The portions are large, the prices more than fair, and everything tastes honest, rustic, and full of soul.

Had octapus barbecue with white wine and loved it! When it says 300ml wine in the menu, they mean it! Feel a bit tipsy now 😉 Staff is really nice and service is quick too. Their bathroom could use some renovation though

Outstanding quality fish. I liked that they're very honest and tell you on the menu what fish is fresh and what is frozen. Fast and friendly service and very reasonable prices. Take a walk through the fish market before you come over and you can see all the fresh fish caught daily including sharks!

Cheap and good - the oven grilled fish (4.5/5) was great, and so was the grilled shrimp (4.5/5) and the octopus. The moussaka dish was good as the eggplant and veal were very soft, but the bechamel was a bit flavorless. Otherwise service is good and the seafood seemed fresh!

The shrimp and anchovies were good. The anchovies were not too salty, just perfect. The shrimp was a good portion and was fresh. Will definitely come here again! When I come back to Athens, this stop will be on my list. Great authentic food.

We had such a wonderful lunch at Aris Tavern! The seafood was absolutely fresh and delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also tried the local beer, which was excellent and paired so well with the meal. The atmosphere was warm and authentic, and everything felt very welcoming. Truly a place I would love to come back to – highly recommended!

Nice Family Tavern in the Central Market. The usual Greek dishes, freshly made. Don’t get deterred by the waiter talking to you when you walk by. Good service. Fair prices.
